FAQ

At Easy Pest Solutions we're dedicated to ensuring your home is free from unwanted guests. If you have an enquiry, view our frequently asked questions below. Otherwise, please feel free to contact us.

  • What is the difference between doing pest control myself with off-the-shelf pesticides, and using the services provided by Easy Pest Solutions?

The products Easy Pest Solutions use are not available over the counter, and are not in the strength needed to completely eradicate your pest issues. You may end up paying more - and doing a lot more work too - than if you had called Easy Pest Solutions to start with.

We are professionals trained to not only apply chemicals, but also to look for points of entry, and see any other problem areas that may cause your pest issues. Furthermore, due to our extensive experience, we know how to choose and use the most effective products to solve your pest issues, not just control them for a while.

The 6-month warranty we give with the vast majority of our treatments ensures that if we do not solve your issue on the first treatment, we will return to determine what further treatment is needed.

  • Do I have to empty my cupboards in the kitchen and / or bedroom for the pest treatment?

No, this is not necessary. We apply a gel or a liquid spray to areas where pests shelter. No liquid sprays are applied to any areas in the kitchen for safety to you and your family.

  • I have animals in the house. Do I need to relocate my cat / dog for the time being?

Make sure their food and water bowls are removed. However, there is no concern to the safety of your dog or cat, since the amount of active chemicals that the dog or cat may take in (either by contact while it's wet or ingesting it orally) is very small. A lot of the new-generation treatments available target specific parts of the insect biology that mammals either are not affected by, or at least our level of tolerance is far superior to that of the insect. So by careful selection of the product we use, we can reduce the impact of our treatments on you, your family and your pets.

  • Is there anything I need to do before the pest treatment?

We apply the pest treatment along skirting. Therefore, personal belongings such as clothing, magazines, toys etc. should be moved off the ground. All food items should be cleared from bench and table tops. There is no need to move furniture.

  • Will the pest treatment you use stain my carpet?

No, the emulsion we apply does not stain your carpet; it is water based and does not contain any strong solvents that could affect colouring or finishes on the floor or on your furnishings.

  • Will the pest spray affect humans?

No, it will not affect you. The products we apply are registered to be used in hospitals, schools and public places (see our products page).

  • Is it safe to stay in my premises while you spray?

It's safe, and yes you can be at home if needed. We do recommend that you vacate your premises while the treatment is carried out and to ventilate the rooms thoroughly after completion for 3 hours, or until the solution has dried. When large amounts of fine mist is applied, such as in a flea treatment, it is required you leave the premises.

  • My child suffers from asthma. Is it safe to stay?

To avoid triggering an asthma attack, we recommended that the child is not present while the treatment is carried out.

  • What if I touch areas that have been sprayed?

Sprayed areas are of some concern while still wet. But once the carrier, which is water from the tap, has evaporated, the active constituent adheres to the surfaces and will not contaminate or harm you. Should you get in contact while it's still wet, wash it off with soap and plenty of water as soon as possible.

  • Will the gel / paste that is applied to the inside of cupboards contaminate my food?

No it will not. The gel / paste is only applied to areas where the pests congregate or harbour, like cracks, crevices or hinges.

  • Will I see any (live) pests after the treatment?

Yes, it's possible that pests may still come in from outside. Chances are that they will cross the treated areas and die shortly after.

  • How often should I have a pest treatment done?

It is recommended that the treatments are carried out on a regular basis, at intervals of no more than twelve months. Shorter periods may be recommended, according to conditions in or around your property.

  • Is the pest treatment guaranteed?

No, the pest treatment is not guaranteed, however we do provide a 6-month warranty for most treatments.

  • Do I need to wash anything after the pest treatment?

No, there is no need to wash utensils or surfaces once the treatment is carried out, as our pest technicians are very careful not to have spray mist drift over these surfaces.

  • I'm renovating. When is it best to do the pest treatment?

We suggest that a general pest treatment is done after you or any tradespeople have completed their jobs. It is preferably done one or two days before you move in. Having said that, if you are renovating and you or the builder would encounter any active termites in your property, please stop all activity and call Easy Pest Solutions straight away. Do not disturb the termites any further.

  • I'm planning to also have my carpet cleaned. Will the carpet clean affect the pest treatment?

It's best to do the pest treatment after carpets have been cleaned or vacuumed, as it is a residual treatment and a carpet cleaner would remove that.

  • If it rains on the day of treatment, will it wash all the treatment away?

No. For the external part of the treatment, we use control agents such as 'Biflex Ultra'. This low-toxic but effective insecticide is insoluble and will not be washed away by rainfall, or by watering the gardens. The rest of the treatment is undercover and will not be affected by rain or high humidity.
