TERMITES

Termites are one of the most destructive and prevalent pests in Cairns. While there is a range of species of termite including dampwood, drywood and subterranean, they are all attracted to wood - the leading cause of infestation in homes.

You may be surprised to learn that termites have an important ecological role. The tiny creatures can break down plant fibres and transform the remains of decaying trees into new soil. They can act as efficient and important decomposers in areas where bacteria and fungi cannot function. Though termites can be good for the environment, the fact that your home is built of what they eat means infestations should be dealt with quickly.

Termites are secretive, and often infestations go unnoticed until the damage has already been done. They can quickly compromise the structural integrity of a home as they chew through wooden beams and supports. This is why it has become an Australian Standard to have a visual termite inspection carried out at least once a year in homes across Far North Queensland.

Our inspections are very thorough and our technicians will not leave until they are satisfied they have found everything there is to find.

What Easy Pest Solutions Can Do For You

  • Visual termite inspections and reports
  • Pre-purchase building and pest inspections and reports (or pre-purchase pest inspection only)
  • All termite treatments:
  • Termite colony control
  • Full perimeter termite treatments
  • Partial perimeter termite treatments
  • Baiting and monitoring systems
  • Reticulation systems

We also offer alternative termite treatments such as advice on making your own termite monitoring systems. Advice and services will be offered to help reduce conditions conducive to termite infestation.

If termites are present, it's not always necessary to treat the entire house. Our Cairns pest technicians will install an integrated termite management system tailored to your property's needs.

Cairns Termite Control Tips

  • Removal of gardens that are against external walls
  • Regular perimeter checks of stumps & timber in contact with soil
  • Reduce moisture and food sources for termites
  • Please be aware that it is quite common for termites to re infest areas that have been attacked in the past. Owner vigilance and regular inspections are essential for early detection.
  • Remove and/or replace all termite damaged timber. Termites leave a pheromone seen trail to guide other termites to a food source.
  • Treat all the active termites found to reduce the termite pressure on the property.
  • Remove all decaying timber from around the house eg; stored timber, railway sleepers, tree and/or palm stumps and garden waste.
  • Remove soil from the base of the timber fences so the timber is not in contact with the soil.
  • Replace untreated timbers with treated timbers where applicable.
  • Do not use mulch in gardens as this will attract termites. Try stones instead.
  • Keep the area around the house as dry as possible by fixing leaks, redirecting water during rain, connecting downpipes to storm water and piping the A/C condensate into waste water pipes.
  • Timber in contact with soil will attract termites, these should be removed where possible or raised off the ground.
  • Gardens should not be build up against the external walls of the house. This encourages moisture build up and gives termite concealed entry into the house.
  • Report all termite damage or activity as soon as possible as this will reduce the amount of damage that is being done.
  • Please do not disturb active termites as a treatment relies on as many termites as possible to carry the chemical back to the nest
